This pub’s overhanging upper floor gives away its age. Its sturdy timber frame has seen out the centuries. The core of it was built in the early 1500s. Whether or not it was built as an inn, it had become one by the 18th century, as you might guess from its name. Its success has wiped out much of its heritage, as successive owners have had funds to refurbish. So don’t expect the interior to reflect its history.
